Hatton is a village in South Derbyshire whose border with neighbouring Tutbury is marked by the beautiful River Dove with its grade 2 listed bridge. Thistley Place Meadow is a popular riverside walking and picnic area. The village has a famous café, The Salt Box on the A511, which has won awards as the best transport café in the UK. The huge Nestlé Tutbury coffee factory (in Hatton) by the station originated as a dairy factory, making tinned condensed milk from 1901. The nearby Salt Brook Heritage Trail features works of art that celebrate local community and industrial history.
Tutbury Village is a beautiful village on the Staffordshire side of the Staffordshire – Derbyshire border, a 12-minute walk or 4-minute cycle from the station, and features some fine Georgian and Regency buildings and the half-timbered Dog and Partridge Hotel. There are antique and craft shops in the village, some of which have been run by the same families for many years. In total it contains 35 listed buildings, of which 2 – Tutbury Castle and St Mary’s Church – are from the 12th century and are Grade 1 listed.
